About Patricia Santana
Patricia R. de Santana is a graduate student in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU). She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from SCSU and is currently completing her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, where she continues to develop her clinical skills through coursework and supervised clinical training.
Patricia approaches therapy with the belief that meaningful change occurs within the context of relationships. She works from a systemic and relational perspective, recognizing how family-of-origin experiences, cultural influences, and intergenerational patterns shape an individual’s emotional life and relationships. Her clinical interests include working with individuals, couples, adolescents, and families as they navigate life transitions, relational challenges, emotional distress, and family conflict.
As a therapist-in-training, Patricia is committed to providing ethical, compassionate, and culturally responsive care. She views therapy as a collaborative process, grounded in trust and mutual respect, where clients are supported in exploring their experiences, identifying strengths, and developing healthier ways of relating to themselves and others. Patricia strives to create a therapeutic environment that feels safe, supportive, and respectful, allowing clients to feel seen, heard, and understood.
Patricia is bilingual in English and Portuguese and has a strong interest in working with culturally diverse and immigrant populations. Having grown up in Brazil, she brings a deep appreciation for cultural identity, family connection, and the ways cultural values influence mental health and relational well-being. She approaches her work with cultural humility, curiosity, and respect for each client’s unique background and lived experience.
In addition to her academic training, Patricia’s personal experiences as a wife and mother of two adolescents inform her understanding of family dynamics, parenting challenges, and the evolving needs of families across the life cycle. These experiences deepen her empathy and reinforce her commitment to supporting families with care and understanding.
Outside of her professional work, Patricia values spending quality time with her family, reading, and being near the ocean. Growing up in a coastal region of Brazil shaped her love for the beach, which continues to be a meaningful source of balance, reflection, and renewal in her life.
Patricia is dedicated to ongoing professional growth and is passionate about supporting clients with warmth, integrity, and respect throughout the therapeutic process.
